It’s Grill Time!

By- Ellen Levine, MS, RDN, EP

For the last month of the summer use the grill to make creative and nutritious accompaniments to your

meats, salads and desserts. Do you know that you can easily grill summer fruits? It is a beautiful and

tasty addition to your plate. Follow this simple recipe and get grilling!

Choose your favorites: peaches, nectarines, large strawberries, or pineapple. They should be of

“medium firmness” not too hard and not too soft, “just right.” Heat the grill with a medium flame for 10

minutes. While it is heating up, wash and dry the fruit. Cut the peaches, nectarines, and strawberries in

half down the center, so there is a flat surface to place on the grill. Remove the pit, when applicable. Cut

the pineapple into “disks” about ½ inch thick. Brush the fruit with avocado oil and place the flat side

down on the grill. Grill for five minutes and that is it!

The natural sugars caramelize, and you will be satisfied eating them alone. Feel free add them to a lean

grilled piece of pork or salmon or top an arugula and goat cheese salad. Save the leftovers to have for

breakfast with creamy Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, or oats and walnuts. Buy these fruits while they

are at their peak and enjoy them in all their natural glory!
