“IN OVER YOUR HEAD”
BTHC February 2026 Blog
I love the expression, “in over your head”. Generally it has a negative connotation. It conjures up a point in time when things are overwhelming and nearly at an end. It can mean we are in over our head with massive amounts of work or unsurmountable debt. It usually means that we are at wit's end, about to give up. For me, however, it marks a time when we need to stand up and be counted. It is a “Tipping Point” for many, a time to push ourselves out of desperation, to a moment of action. If used properly, the feeling of being deeply, totally submerged may be the very catalystic moment to propel us to fight harder. Achieving more than we ever expected. To come back from exasperation and to rise above, out of the danger zone, can be the very thing that turns the negative to a life-changing positive. Once we learn to fight for survival at the darkest times we establish a pattern of success. We can look back to the moment we might have “gone under” to a time when we finally realize that we will never give up, we can never be the same. Fighting harder becomes our way of life. No longer “in over our head”, not sinking but swimming in life's positive pool of success!
